What it is
Big slabs, fewer seams, one consistent look
Porcelain surfaces are made from kaolinite clay fired at extremely high temperatures. That process creates a hard, dense, non-porous slab. Modern porcelain comes in large formats, which means fewer seams and the ability to cover a whole wall in one continuous surface.
Many porcelain slabs are printed with high-resolution images of real marble and finished with realistic veining, so you get the marble look without marble's upkeep. Porcelain is also UV stable, which means it works outdoors where quartz cannot.

Best uses
Where porcelain works (and where it doesn't)
Porcelain is at its best anywhere you want large, continuous surfaces with fewer seams. Full-height backsplashes, shower walls, tub surrounds, and outdoor kitchens all benefit from its large format and UV stability. It's a strong choice for a modern, minimalist look.
It works on countertops too, though the thinner profile and chippable edges make the edge profile more important. If you want a thick, substantial look at the counter, natural stone may serve you better. We'll show you both and help you decide.
Care and maintenance
Almost nothing
Wipe up spills with soap and water. Porcelain is non-porous, so it never needs sealing. It resists stains, heat, and UV light without any special treatment.
Avoid hitting the edges with heavy pots or pans, since chipped edges are harder to repair than on natural stone. Beyond that, there's no routine. It's one of the lowest-maintenance surfaces we install.
